What are the complications of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)? 1-2

If GERD is mismanaged or left untreated, there can be serious complications, including:1-2:
  • Oesophageal stricture or obstruction
  • Appearance of pre-malignant mutations in the oesophageal lining, known as Barrett’s Oesophagus
  • Increased risk of stomach cancer
Symptoms suggesting that severe damage may have already occurred include: 1-2:
